Wolf Conservation Center Testimonial
The folks at Whitetail Solutions are professional, respectful, holistic, and
above all safe, in their approach to removing deer.
Some folks may not "see the big deer problem" as stated in the article,
but the problem goes way beyond deer/vehicle collisions, and the
browsing of property owner's yards . The over population of deer
affects every level of our local environment, and its ecosystems. This
overabundance has a significant impact on natural processes. These
impacts cascade through the system, affecting the growth and survival
of many herb, shrub, and tree species, and extends to insects, birds, and
other mammals.
Until European settlers arrived here in the northeast, predators such as
wolves, culled the herds and kept the system in balance. Without
predators, an ecosystem fails to support healthy levels of biodiversity.
We have observed firsthand the significant impact of an ecosystem that
is out of balance.
Other than humans, it is unlikely we will ever again have a viable natural
predator for deer in this area. Although hunting is a useful tool to reduce
the deer population, it is doubtful it can be used exclusively to bring the
system back into balance. In evaluating all of the potential options, we
may be way beyond that possibility at this point.
There are environmental lessons to learn from our situation. Ultimately,
the widest impact will be felt by our children and grandchildren who will
have to live with the cumulative effects of this altered ecology.
Sincerely,
Barry Braden
